ポップ

新刊が出ると作るポップ。

書店さんの店頭で使ってもらうために作るのですが、これが結構たのしい。今回はこんなのを作ってみました。

出版社にも２０枚くらい渡したので、全国のどこかで使われているといいな〜。

私は流通のことはよく分からないのですが、たぶんGW辺りからチラホラ書店さんに並びはじめるんではないかと。ホント私の本が全国の書店に並べられるのも営業さんたちのおかげなんですよね〜。

どんなことでもそうですけど、支えられてるわけですね。ありがたや！

I made a little ad to use at book shops.

Book shops in Japan put this post card sized ad beside the books. I make it every time my new book's out. It's fun to design it.

I don't know exactly when my book starts to appear at shops, but I guess it's going to be within the next week. I can't wait to see them piled at book shops! yay!

Harvey

もう何回みたか分からないくらい見ている映画「Harvey」

昨日数年ぶりくらいに見たのに、ちゃんとセリフを覚えてた（笑）。大学の卒展では、Harveyを題材にした版画なんかも展示しちゃったり。大のHarveyファンです。

日本では「ハーヴェイ」としてDVDが出てるみたいですね。子どもにもぴったりのお話なんだけど、いかんせん字幕しかない。ちょっとそこ残念ですね！

もともとは舞台演劇で、映画化されたもの。舞台もみました。もちろんジェームズ・スチュアートではないけど。はぁ〜、いつかプーカに巡り会いたい！

この写真と一緒のものが、ロンドンの画廊で売ってました。そのときは買わなかった。値段だけでも聞いとけばよかった。いや、高くても買っとけばよかった〜（涙）

I love Harvey the pooka.

Originally this story was a theatre play, then made into a film in 1950 I think. I don' know how many times I watched this film really. I memorised most of the lines!

I dug out this DVD after a couple of years and watched it last night. Good heavens! It was still as good. I love Jimmy Stewart and his friend, a big white rabbit!

I saw this photo sold in a Gallery in London.

I really should have bought it then!!! Now I regret...sob sob.

Pecha kucha night #72 Tokyo

21日の夜、六本木にあるSuper Deluxで開かれた、ペチャクチャナイトに参加してみました。

ペチャクチャナイトは、イギリス人＋イタリア人の建築家さんが東京ではじめたもので、毎回１０人くらいの人が自分の作品をプレゼンします。おもしろいことをやりたいな〜と思っている人たちがくるので、色んな人とお話ができるのです。

今や世界３００都市で開催されてるらしいです。
すてきですよね〜。

私はトップバッターだったんですが、かえって「一番目なら何やってもいいや」と開き直れてよかったです。でもやっぱりドキドキ。

子どもの前でやるイベントは慣れっこだけど、大人の人の前はちょっと緊張する！

I took a part in Pecha kucha night Tokyo #72 on 21st.

I once went there as a visitor about 2 years ago. I loved the idea of anyone with any interesting ideas and projects could present. Apparently over 300 cities hold this event now. Isn't it amazing?

People I met there were so nice. I had a fab time, though I was very nervous before my turn!

I'm so used to talking before kids, but not adults!

ぶらり

今朝、東京から帰ってきました。

３日間歩き通しで、足がパンパンになってしまいました。最近歩いてなかったからな〜。今回合計で何キロ歩いたのか知りたい。相当歩いたと思う！

土曜日は、前々から言ってみたかった吉祥寺をぶらり。井の頭公園をぶらり。絵本専門店にもぶらり。

でも足いたた！

I came back from Tokyo this morning.
I walked all day and night for 3 days until my legs totally killed me! I hadn't walked as much these years. I thought I was still fit though! Ouch!

I strolled to Kichijoji where I always wanted to visit. I like the atmosphere of the town, but I bet it'll get more and more expensive to live there. I saw lots of fancy shops!

I had a good time rambling about in Inogashira park too. Tokyo doesn't have much green unfortunately, so this one was nice and pleasant. It was nice popping in some children's book specialist books shops. Of course I showed my new book!

It was lovely to stroll for a day,

thought my legs were very very tired!

ずっとしとしと

ずっとしとしとしてます。
あれ〜？結構な晴れ女だと思っていたのに、おかしいぞ。

昨日は、風と雨がすごかったので、博物館と地下をブラブラ。築地で打ち合わせの後、風の中、一生懸命がんばってお目当ての海苔屋さんに行ったけど、やっぱり閉まってた。５時過ぎてたからしかたないか〜。

今日は、できたてほやほやの新刊「くいしんぼうのマロンとメロン　ピザのくにへいく」を頂きに神保町へ行って参ります。楽しみ♪

My new cards and post cards have arrived! Yippee! They look just like how I wanted them to be. I'm pretty happy with the colour too.

I'll be off to Tokyo for a couple of days from next Wed. These are going to be very useful when I speak to some bookshops!

● 昨日久しぶりにマイクさんから電話が。（マイクさんは、ロンドンの父的存在）私のフクロウへの愛をいっしょうけんめい伝えたのですが、「フクロウはね、見た目はかわいいけどなでなでしちゃいけないよ。トラもね」とのこと。

カリー

インドカレーラブです。

前は、インド人と結婚した人に教えてもらった、スパイスから調合する本格カレーを作っていたのですが、最近ぜ〜んぜん食べれなくて恋しがってたのです。

なので行ってきました。カレーレストラン。

正確にはネパール系だったけど、この際スパイスが食べられればいいのだ。

おいしい〜。涙でそう。

このレストランの辛さの度合いが分からなかったので、ミディアムを頼んだのですが、ホットでもよかったかも。ナンでかかった！あまりにがっつきすぎて、写真を撮るのを忘れました。あちゃ！

I LOVE Indian curry.

I used to cook authentic curry when I lived in London. It was much easier to get hold of spices there. I could have Indian curry almost every day. I love spices! I can see how old rich people went crazy about buying spices in old days.

I love curry this much, but since none of my family members likes it, I haven't made curry at home....for almost two years now. Very sad.

So I went to a restaurant with my friend. It was Nepalese though I don't mind! Since I don't really see the difference in taste!

I had mutton curry with huge plain naan.

Oh, It was heavenly...I think I can have it again tomorrow! :-)

あーでもない、こーでもない

昨日ブラブラと散歩していたら、さくらんぼの実に気がつきました。

いまだに桜の木＝さくらんぼの木だなんて信じられないです。

さくらんぼといえば、チェコの村で村人のために植えてあった木に大量になっていたさくらんぼを、友達の愛犬と食べた覚えがある。１人と一匹で相当食べた。

あのさくらんぼは、今でもチャンピオン。


最近は東京でのプレゼンの準備です。テーマはしぼってしぼって。シンプルでうきうきするのを目指します。自分も楽しめるものにしたいな〜。

楽しみです♥

名刺は大事？

今日は名刺作り。

今まで家でプリントアウトしたショボ〜イものしか持っていなかったし、この先ちょくちょく必要になってくるので、「ちゃんと印刷するか〜」と重い腰をあげたわけです。

でも名刺１つにこんなに時間がかかるとは！

どんな絵にするかを決めるだけで数日かかってしまった〜。でもやっぱり名刺って、会う人に「こんにちは〜」ってするものじゃないですか。それなりに自分の作品にも興味をもってもらいたいし♥ そこに載せる絵は大事かも。たくさん刷るから数年のおつきあいになるので、あきないものの方がいいですしね！

なので色々考えて、はじめは片面フルカラーだったのを、やっぱり両面刷にしてみました。今は入稿も全部ネットでできるので楽ちんですね。色がちゃんとレトロっぽくでてくれるといいけれど。

早く届かないかな〜♪

I designed my new business card today.

I used to have shabby ones I printed out at home, so I thought it should look more professional! It took me days just to decide the image though... The illustration on the cards will be the first image for my clients to see, so I wanted to make it look interesting.

It's actually my first card to print at a printer. I can't wait to see it's done!Yay!

たのしかった〜

昨日は、３月までつとめていた英会話教室の人たちが送別会を開いてくださいました。

絵本のお仕事とはちがって、人と人とのおつきあいがとっても大切なお仕事だったのですが、ここでも本当にたくさんのステキな出会いがあって、やっぱりやってみてムダになることは１つもないな〜と思いました。

もちろん絵本のお仕事が第一なんだけど、私は副業をするのが大好きです。ずーっと家で１人でお仕事してると、なーんか息がつまっちゃうんですよね。社会にでるのって、大切だな〜って思います。

みなさん、本当にありがとうございました〜。またお会いしましょう。

I worked as an English teacher a few times a week till the end of March. My colleagues and the students threw a lovely farewell party for me last night. It was nice to see everyone!

The job was totally different from what I'd been used to. I needed much more communication skills and leadership too. It was actually my first "proper job", so it was very challenging but beneficial.

Of course making children's books is my all time job, but I love doing a part time job too. I get to miss people after working at home on my own for a couple of days. I'm going to focus on illustration for now, but I love to have another job again!

Thanks, everyone for coming to the party, and Karaoke! I hope to see you again!

May 2 / 3pm~ At a children's book specialist, "Ookina ki" (Big tree) in Gifu city.

May 3 / time's not set yet At The Libretto, malera Gifu (reading and signing)

May 5 / 2pm~ At Academia, a bookshop in a mall, Aqua walk in Ogaki. (Book signing only)

I'm going to read my previous three books as well as the latest one coming up in a few weeks. I'll update the information about the new book as soon as possible.

掛川花鳥園

行ってきました、念願だった掛川花鳥園！！目的は猛禽類（タカとかワシとかフクロウとか）I went to a theme park in Shizuoka prefecture yesterday. This is a place features birds and flowers from around the world.

かぁっっっっっっこいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいいい！！大感動。こんな間近でフクロウを拝めるとは！I found out about this place while I was looking up some photos of owl, when I was making my previous book, "Fly away, the three duckling brothers!" Since then I always wanted to go there and see the real owls. I think they are the coolest birds...!!
オオフクロウのくるみちゃん。愛くるしい〜。This one was my favourite. I love her walnut coloured feathers. She's actually called "Kurumi", or walnut in English.
威厳たっぷりのカラフトフクロウさま。見つめられると理由なしにあやまりたくなる。An owl with dignity. I'm sure this one knows everything.
表向き〜。ボケーーーーー。
後ろ向き〜。ボーーーーーーーーッ。Have you seen a peacock butt? If not, there you go!

大垣ケーブルテレビ

今朝、地元のケーブルテレビへ読み聞かせシーンを撮りに行ってきました。

今月１９日から子供向け番組で一週間流れるみたいです。詳しい番組名とか分かったら右枠の＜メディア情報＞に載せますね！

前にもケーブルテレビさんにはお世話になったことがあって、今回の担当さんはその時とは違う人だったんですが、両者ともとってもいい人なんですよ。リラックスした感じで、楽しんでやれてよかったよかった。

トチって何度もやり直しとかになったらどうしようと思いましたが、何とか１回でいけました。よかった〜。

I went to a local cable TV station today to film myself reading "Fantastic Mr.Wani".

I think it's going to be broadcast from the 19th of this month for a week. I'm used to reading towards people, but it was my first time to read before a camera. It was fun though.

I'm planning to throw reading and signing events over the Golden week. (Japanese one week holiday, at the beginning of May) If any of you happen to be around, do keep checking the info in the right strip, and come around!

風つよい

今日は風がめちゃくちゃ強いです。

今、何かが飛んでいった音がしました。

そういえば昔、横浜美術館あたりで友達と傘で遊んでいたら、強風で数メートル飛んだ経験があります。なんでそんなところで強風吹き荒れる中、傘で遊んでいたかはもう覚えてないですが、１０代らしいテンションの高さがそうさせたんでしょう。

傘で飛ぶとふわ〜って浮いて、すごく気持ちいいです。もう一回経験したいですが、最近は傘の方が先に折れちゃいます。

軟弱！

Cherry blossoms!

友達とチャリをキーコキーコとこいで、山へ登って桜を見てきました。

桜のことをキレイ！と思ったことってあまりなかったのですが、昨日は見とれてしまいました。チャリで山を登るのは大変だったけど、帰りはスピードだして久しぶりに「ひゃっほ〜！」って言いながら坂をおりました（笑）言いたくなりませんか？

行きはあんなにかかったのに、滑り降りたら数分で下山。ちょっとさみし〜

でも楽しかったです。季節の行事はいいですね。

I went to see cherry blossoms with my friend yesterday.

We biked up to a mountain to get to a ravine which was supposed to be famous for its cherry trees.Unfortunately the blossoms there were already towards the end, so we moved to another ravine, which was much nice than the first one.

The blossoms were at their best yesterday. I usually prefer plum blossoms though I thought the cherry blossoms were beautiful too. It was fab to slide down the hill on the way back home. It took us ages to ride up and took only minutes to ride down! so sad!

It's nice to enjoy each season.

チェキ！

最近デジカメにあきあきしてかわりに出てきたのが、ポラロイドカメラ愛。写真を撮った瞬間にカメラから、すーっと写真がでてくるやつです。そして数分おくと映ったものが出て来るっていう。

デジカメって相当いいもの買わないと全然色とかよくないし、現像するたびにがっかりだしって感じでした。それに写真に対する愛情が、PC上で見るだけだとぜ〜んぜんわかないんですよね。

フィルムカメラは好きだし、父から譲り受けた３０年以上前に製造されたミノルタの一眼レフはすばらしいんだけど、いかんせん私の性格では、２４枚とか３６枚撮り終えるまで待てない！撮り終わった頃にはどうでもよくなって、現像に出さない。（どんな性格だ…）

「撮ったものは今みたいのじゃ。早うみせい！」という人にはポラロイドおすすめです。でもポラロイド社は、インスタントカメラの生産を中止してしまったので、今は富士フィルムの”チェキ”が世界でオンリーワンのインスタントカメラらしいです。なのでポラロイドカメラとは呼べないのだとか。

でもインスタントカメラってすごく安っぽく聞こえるので私はポラロイドと呼び続けたい。これからはポラで写真を撮って、デジカメで資料写真を撮るって感じになりそうです。

これ、中古で２５０円で購入。ほぼ新品。

こ、こんな名盤を手放す人もいるんだな〜。

ジャケットと同じ写真のステッカーがついてたので飾っとこう。

雲上桜

この間、近所にある雲上桜というなかなかステキな名前のついた桜の木を見てきました。

５００年以上も生きてるらしいです。

木って長生き、と再実感。

The cherry blossom season's come in Japan.

People seemed to be excited about planning a blossom viewing party. I'm not a huge fan of cherry blossoms I have to say (I love plum blossoms), but this tree had a stunning look. This 500year old tree had beautiful weeping branches that had pretty little blossoms.

I liked the contrast of the vivid blue and the light pink.
