PLRのお話

イギリスには日本では残念ながら確立されていない、すばらしい制度があります。

例えば、私の「はしれワニくん」がイギリス国内の図書館で一回貸し出しされるごとにわずかですが、印税がつくシステムです。それを管理するのがPLRという機関。

毎年この時期になると、あなたの本はこれだけ貸し出しされましたよ、というレポートがくるのですが、ちょっと今年のはびっくり。去年の４倍の貸し出し回数になってました。１年で1666回。作家内ではまだまだ少ない方とは言え、私にとってはビックニュース。

「はしれワニくん」出版から５年経って、やっと認知されたっぽいです。

こういうレポートはうれしい。
読者とつながっている感じがするから。

きっと図書館員さんたちががんばって紹介してくれたんだろうな〜。

この制度、日本にも絶対作るべき。

I got a latest report from PLR this week.

Apparently my book, "The Fantastic Mr.Wani" was taken out from the libraries throughout the country 1666times in total in a year. This NO is 4 times more than the previous 4 years'. I don't know what helped, but I was very happy to know lots more kids were having fun with my book. It's just fantastic to think kids in the other side of the worlds know my book!

I really hope the organisation like PLR will get set up in Japan someday, as at the moment there is absolutely no royalty whatsoever for the authors when our books are taken out from the libraries. There should be fair trade in publishing too!
